The "Great War"

The parents of the first to die in the WOT in Afghanistan and those of the 3000th who died in Iraq: A brief tale told by an imbedded reporter once thought dead himself, interesting read (010107a) Our "imperial" mission, explained and illuminated, a 50 or 100 year war of smashing flies with sledgehammers (010207a)

Will Casey gets the boot, here is why (010607b) Troops don't like the war any more than anyone else (010607c) The Joint Chiefs don't like Massa Bumbledorr's urge to surge either (010607d) and part two: Gates and the White House (010607e) As for other details, the ISG's report has its highlights highlighted now you can find out "what went wrong" (010607f)

Bush gets blistered, see the sample, but the article's point is that the surge will "break the president" 010307a) because people will rise up take away his keys, says this one. Another says he's a sociopath (010307f)

An Israeli think tank thinks Israel can knock out Iran's nukes on its own. (010307d) and a call to end the crusade, the realists and rationalists are given the spotlight (010507d)

The Muddle East:

Israel ... Lebanon ... Palestine ... Gaza:

Sharing governmental power, a proxy battle, foreign influence: whither does Lebanon go? Will 2007 see a civil war? (123106b) Related to the ills Lebanon suffers from is an assault, from virtually all quarters, on the news media in the country. (010607k) Divisions being created there reflect, most likely, divisions becoming ever more clear in the society as a whole

Iraq:

I guess the big news is Saddam's death, here are some details of the "event" (123006t) and this was the deadliest month for the US in two years (123006u) and the Shia's have a bad day too, a sectarian uptick? (123006v)

Saddam buried, the crowd mourns and it seems this widens the sectarian divide, part one (010107b) part two, a vow made (010107c) and there are others who will miss Saddam, mainly those who wanted to ask him lots and lots of questions (010107d) More on what fallout may come of this and what the timing of the event has to do with Shia/Sunni relations (010207c) can one "imagine an event more emblematic, of what America has accomplished or failed to accomplish here than the final chapter of Saddam Hussein." (010207d) some early protests may mean "more violence to come" (010207x)

Riverbend has a take on the execution, typically it is one that "says it all" emotive and exhausting to read, despite its brevity (010207e)

An interesting perspective of what the "biggest tragedy in the Iraq war" is . (123106f)

Remember Zarqawi? His death was supposed to make life better, instead the repercussions are horrific was it a "lose lose" situation then that we walked into? (010307b)

Then this article, its key quote: "If we surge and it doesn't work, it's hard to imagine what we do after that," Mr. Kagan says. "But we're already in a very bad spot, and if we don't do anything defeat is imminent." (010407b) Then too the question that is unanswered is "What the HELL IS plan B if the "bump" as some articles call the surge, doesn't quite do it? (010407e)

Our ally, Egypt, is the source of a broadcast of Sunni insurgent videos of attacks on US and allied forces in Iraq, (010407f) though it has been interrupted now, Egypt seems unwilling to pull the plug on the broadcasts

Iran:

The two we arrested are let go, I guess they did not do what it was we said they did, or did they and who knows if it matters. (123006a1) We keep a "naval eye" on Iran, with promises of more to come (010207b) UN sanctions and US financial shenanigans help create a lose lose situation, (010307e)

The changes in our military leaders in the region are hints for Iran action? (010507b)

The Greater Islamic regions East:

Pakistan ... Afghanistan ... et al ...

What might be a tourist bonanza, the ring roadway in Afghanistan, is seen for what it is today, exciting (010107e)

The Greater Islamic regions South:

Ethiopia ... Somalia ... Eritrea:

Ethiopian troops enter Mogadishu, with mixed reviews Part one (123006w) Part two, the resistance calls to arms (123006x) Part three: street protests and more fighting (123006y) the would be ruler of Somalia is dependent on the foreign troop and there are signs that promises of resistance are not idle (123006z) Another report also has Mr. Ghedi getting a mixed welcome (123006a2)

The warlords are back, one gives an interview and a harsh assessment of the present situation (123106c) Even as fighting continues in the south (123106e)

The situation is fragile, Somalia has fractured, it seems, and Ethiopia has the potential for such as well. The question is how long will the fight and or occupation go on? How long CAN Ethiopia "maintain" as it were (010207f) Other stories report the Islamic Courts have been routed, in Mogadishu, it seems, the old ways return (010307c) Ethiopian troops killed by resistance, scattered violence, but Ethiopia says they'll leave in a couple of weeks. (010307g)

Riots against Ethiopians in Mogadishu (010507a)

Sudan ... Darfur ... Chad:

The Future:

A laundry list of the hot spots that may well get all the hotter in 2007 (010207g) and some facts concerning the "quality" recruits our armed forces are garnering these days (010507c)

It's not nice to fool with Mother Nature:

2007 to be the hottest year on record? That is the prediction we are hearing now a days (010607g) China sees the global warming, even though the US does not (010607h)

Oil Politics, Wars, etc...

Gas deals in the news point out the political power of petroleum. (123106d)

The future of the U.S.:

Another signing statement, another right violated, oh well, watch your mail (010407c) and what good is checking electronic voting machines if the company that does the checking doesn't really do the checking? (010407d)

Conscientious objector status, Kevin Benderman, fought for his country and then objected for it. (010407g)

Could the Democraps make it "get ugly" if Shit - for - Brains in Chief presses for a Surge - Bump and tries to sideline congress? (010607a)

Our Loverly Presstitutes inaction:

Attacks on journalists, papers, broadcasters reach historic levels in 2006 (010607i) There is evidence of a recent and noteworthy uptick (010607j) What is the cost of an "unfree" press? Read on (010607l) How one reporter died, how the US media did NOT cover it while overseas, of course, it was headline news and an embarrassment (010607m)

Does the man/woman pay gap STILL exist, yes, and it is widening now. Blame the women for making "their choices" (123106a) One way to keep people in the dark, hide the info (123106g) and the giant PORK BARREL that is the W.O.T., heeeyah get to the trough while the getting is good (123106j)

I know what I mean by the word "justice" but what does our Bumphuck in Chief mean by that word, huh? Read on (123106) and Saddam, Saddam, he's our man if he'll butcher for us like no one can: We made and unmade him (123106i)

Most everyone thinks the press coverage of Iraq is inaccurate (010407a) Repuglicans believing the coverage makes it look bad, Demorcraps think it makes it look to good.

01/13//07

The "Great War"

Ya gotta love the title: "A Formal Intervention With A Dry Drunk President" (010707h) Guantanamo hunger strike has an increase in numbers despite intense efforts to keep them fed. (010807a) Remember the Pete Seger lines: "We're waste deep in the Big Muddy And the big fool says to push on"? (011107a)

In modern wars the civilians are the casualties, take a look at some statistics (011107g)

Bushwhackoff's shuffling of personnel bode for a change in the PR program, strategy and choice of target (011307e)

The Muddle East:

Israel ... Lebanon ... Palestine ... Gaza:

In Gaza it's Hamas in the West Bank its Fatah, for now, with a semblance of peace, sort of. (010707e) But this weekend shows how the fight continues, one wonders, wearily, if peace will ever dawn. (010707n)

Elliot Abrams wants a "hard coup" by Fatah against Hamas? Word up ya'll, it will be a disaster (010807e) Rice's war on the Palestinians, what a lame brain (010807f)

Another story reporting Israel's plans to attack Iran's nuclear facilities. (010807g) and a comment about the consequences, my favorite part was Israel getting permission after the fact. (010807h)

Why the urge to attack Iran? (011307d) Because there is only two years left of the Bush debacle and time grows shorter each and every minute of every damned day they wait

Iraq:

A threat from the congress, to cut funding for the surge? We shall see (010807b) Saddam more well liked now than when he was alive? is being called a martyr? Protests in support of him? (010807c) did we shoot ourselves in the foot that's in our mouth? Part two, the word going out (010807d)

Another story about the new "Iraqi" oil law, that may spell victory in the terms our Dingleberry for Chief understands (010907g)

If you want clarification on just how it "went wrong" in Iraq and you have a hunch it was the planning, well you'd be half right, this article is a kicker and it makes you sick at the same time, maybe it's a kick in the balls article (010907x)

Our Jackass in Chief: the speech the coverage, simple naked facts speak volumes NYT: (011007a) Surge, escalation or punt? (011007b) and say, how much does it cost to kill your "average Iraqi" hey! I'm just asking???? (011007c)

I say, would it surprise ANYONE that we don't have a plan B for "after the surge"? (011107b) Also it was an Iraqi idea and Bush says it will work, "because it has to". Well, I guess I'M reassured, aren't you? (011107c) Here is the skinny on the whole deal, I know I couldn't listen to it either (011107d) Big networks then mostly shut out the Dems reply (011107h)

It is about the oil, even Pelosi knows this (011307c) and the Brits begin pulling the plug, (011307i) claiming as they do so, that a smooth hand over is in progress.

Iran:

Going for the slow game as well the US efforts against Iran are varied and extensive (010707b) Recent news items and more have it that Iran is in the cross hairs, even that the trigger is being squeeeeeeeeeeeezed ever so slightly, just about now. (011107e) And we capture a few of them, again (011107f) And we announce links between captured Iranians and the Iraqi resistance (011307)

Israel's people think an attack is the only option that will work (011306a) Here are more details on that "thinking:" (011307b) a secret memo authorizing military action against Syria and Iran? (011307g) Some data supporting the Iran attack thesis (011307h)

The Greater Islamic regions South:

Ethiopia ... Somalia ... Eritrea:

Somalia needs to transition to a peaceful unified state (010707) this article talks about the south, ignores the north, which has its own problems, and poses the idea that time may be short for "real" help to arrive

For anyone trying to understand Somalia this tongue and cheek traipse through the background is fun to read and full of facts (010907a) then the story about a US military strike on terrorists in that country (010907b) followed by more strikes (010907c)

Reactions to the strikes and the situation, it does not look promising (011007d) Mogadishu's urban chaos ramps up reacting to the attacks (011107i) in which 100 innocents may have died,(011107j) Fighting breaks out in Mogadishu when weapons searches begin (011107x)

The Future:

A useful primer on Polonium 210. Where it is made, mostly. What it's used for. Why it could be yet one more threat we can worry about (010707c) part two, millions could be endangered (010707d) posting Somalia as the "new Iraq" may be a stretch, but we seem to be repeating our "methods of entry" (010907e) and this article gives a foreboding warning: the support of Somalians for our anti terror efforts in their country depends on whether or not we kill ONLY their enemies, which can loosely translate as foreigners (010907f)

Just a bit about NAZI''s connections to the US giant General Motors during WW2. (010707f)

South of the Rio Grande:

South America becoming more like the European Union? (010707m) Sounds like they are thinking this way and this can only mean more change in a world that Bush created, what a colossal jackass, an idiot, no I don't want to impugn idiots.

Oil Politics, Wars, etc...

Even that fat ass Cheney gave us a "heads up" regarding the oil problem (010707k) How big oil "softens" its public stance on global warming (010907h)

The future of the U.S.:

We do agree with North Korea on one thing, we both like our munitions, cluster bombs and land mines, yup, we both have an appetite (010707g) Witness Guatemala and Iran, circa 1953 -3 Those who do not kow history are doomed to repeat it, (010707i)

Will the democraps huff and puff, scuffle, melee and fight tooth and nail against this president,? Impeachment and the power of the purse are off the table , what is left but hearings and investigations ... will it be "rough enough"? (010707l)

Hints of a "Jackass to cum" JD Crouch, the "architect of our new Iraq strategy, oh boy oh boy (0100907x)

Our Loverly Presstitutes inaction:

Would you like to see what articles of impeachment look like, those for Bush? Well click here, even if the formatting may be ood. (010707a)

Living in a land where lawenforceotainment is normal as are SWAT teams (010707j)

01/20//07

Herewith are my editorial comments:

Let us begin with Iraq. My most recent thought is this, no one wants success there, or rather, no one party wants any others to. enjoy it. As long as there is chaos the Kurds may go and do their own thing, as long as they do not openly declare independence and they can do their own thing as long as there is chaos. As long as there is chaos Turkey does not have to worry about an independent Kurdistan. Iran wants its Iraqi's to make the best of it, the chaos that is, the Saudi's get to fight against them and the United States - why should they want the US to have even more influence in the region? The US to he more control over oil prices or its military so near? Syria is left alone as long as we're bogged down there. Jordan is too. And anyone in the region who is upset about the corruption of their government and the influence of the "west" has a place to go to vent, and that place is not Damascus or Amman. Israel gets left alone, relatively speaking, to pursue its Palestinian probe and the US gets to do what it wants because the chaos justifies their presence, no one in their right minds will "help us" out, the floods of military money being made, oil sold and, for now, there is every promise of more to come. Sunni and Shia' militia both may agree on one thing, as long as there is chaos they can do their things.

Next, go back to 9/11. Many people still make fun of the idea that the towers could have been sabotaged. They were. The evidence is clear, and here it is. You will recall the vivid video of the planes hitting the towers. You will recall that neither plan hit their targeted tower exactly in the center - both hit asymmetrically, that is, both damaged their towers to the side, off center. So the question becomes this: how does asymmetrical damage to a static system full of potential energy come to result in a reaction that is completely, nay perfectly symmetrical? Answer, naturally speaking, it could not, would not. The simplest of physics disallows the result we all saw on TV as being a result of the cause given and building seven is, of course, even more of a compete fabrication. And here is a bit on 9/11 that has to do with the "piloting" of the planes and the "ability" of the pilots (011597l)

Last, There have been several reports of children in Iraq hanging themselves in imitation of Saddam. This is perhaps his most bizarre legacy. My thought, horrid though it is, is this: perhaps these children are not volunteers. What if they are brainwashed, or forced. What if this is the latest sectarian wrinkle?

Food for thought, eh? All of it is.

The "Great War"

Italy, grows selective, some day distant from he US policies it dislikes. An unheard of situation only a few months ago. (011507a) We ARE behind schedule, we were supposed to take down seven nations in five years, what happened? (011707c) and still thinking the unthinkable regarding Iran (011707d)

You have to go overseas to hear how Iran offered what we now demand, except Cheney chose not to talk to "evil" (011907a) back then, you recall that? nicht whar?

The Epicentral Theater The "old" Muddle East:

Israel ... Lebanon ... Palestine ... Gaza:

Hezbollah still at work on the government, threatens to disrupt the highway network to bring the government down (011807g)

The "greater" Muddle Eastern Theater:

Egypt, ... Jordan ... Syria ... Iraq ... Saudi Arabia, etc.

What does CandiGirl have to say about Israel's alleged plot to strike Iran's nukes? Why it just shows how dangerous Iran is, of course. (011407) A group of 8 nations in the region want "less foreign influence in Iraq" meaning Iranian not American (011707k)

Iraq:

Our "new plan" for Iraq has risks, chief among the is Shia's becoming just a bit fed up with us and wanting us out. A Shia insurgency matching the Sunni one will push conditions to the breaking point, (011407f) It seems that Iraq and the US are not on the same page, (011507b) when it comes to the "new plan" As long as liar's lie and policy is based on spin and drama, not fact and proven theory then we will continue to have no solution to the problems we've mismanaged to create in this sorry place called Iraq (011507h)

Bush, Iraq and the "Texas Strategy" (011507i) A 300 year feud between neighboring families, gives a hint of what is to come in Iraq, where the 60% solution is being considered, one guesses, as part of the surge, making Iran and the US allies, sort of. (011507j)

Kurdish troops move to Baghdad, the nugget in the story, however, is the mentioning that the Kurds keep some troops to protect the oil infrastructure around Kikurk (011607a) And the city itself as well as Mosul have "issues" with Kurdification, as it might be called, a referendum to "decide" the issue is planned, so might a crisis (011607c) and a few more words on the topic (011607d) that referendum is for late this year but here are some details about the deaths and fighting for a "greater Kurdistan"? (011607h)

Ironic that Saddam's execution should cause so much controversy while those of his victims did not (011607f)

From being lost in the woods to an interesting solution for Iraq, it is one that I had thought of, in principle, but this is much better (011607i) How you too can tell fudged statistics from the UN regarding the death reports from Iraq (011707a) A day of details regarding the "field day of killings" (011707b)

OIL OIL OIL, imagine the chutzpah, Iraqis upset that we're getting them to sign away their oil, (011707f) and after ALL we've done TO them Here is a brief overview (011707g)

As if the chaos in Iraq is not enough there is an indication that the US may be switching sides in the middle of being creamed (011907m) part two, a 'great game" reddux and the problem of "dealing with Iran/Iraq as a dynamic duo (011907n)

Iran:

Iran Iraq ties and the Kurdish connection (011607e) Don't YOU think we shouldn't be letting Iran buy our military surplus stuff? (011707e) More on the chatter regarding Iran, it'll be more of a war than a set of surgical strikes (011907h) part two, it is weak (011907i)

Iran's war games comes on the heels of US announcing that another carrier group has entered he region (012107a)

Meanwhile, from what is being said, it seems there is movement or rather, saber rattling for, an attack on Iran, and soon (012107b)

The Greater Islamic regions, Eastern Theater:

Iran ... Pakistan ... Afghanistan ... et al ...

A bank gives a warning regarding investments in Iran, an attack is feared (011907e) That it could happen before April is the word in Kuwait (011907f)

In a world where "image is all" villagers in Pakistan claim a US aircraft attacked them and killed woodcutters. (011907g) There were Pakistani helicopters as well, which followed up the attack. This can hardly hope to help our cause.

The Greater Islamic regions, Southern Theater:

Ethiopia ... Somalia ... Eritrea ... Sudan

Civilians killed while air strikes continue, or air intel or flyonver whatever. The US does not need to make more enemies. (011607b)

The Greater Islamic regions, South Asian Thearte:

India ... South Asia

Chechnya has a bit of normalcy return, along with rail service and a surrender of rebels. Is this a victory? (011507c) US military rumored to have active operations in the Philippines? (011507f) Kyrgyzstan, another loss of democracy, where US and Russian influence "meet' (011507g)

The Korean Zone:

China ... Japan ... the Koreas and Russia

Japan gets a bit more conservative - if Korea goes more "uppity" what WILL Japan do? Watch as the geo political handi work of WW2 begins to slowly unravel as our Shit for Brains in Chief diddles himself as Rome burns (011407a)

China makes a move and raises the debate surrounding the weaponization of space (011907j) by shooting down one of their old satellites

The Latin Zone: South of the ol' Rio Grande:

Ecuador joins the list of states which may have a dim view of the US (011507e)

Oil Politics, Wars, etc...

Olmert in China gets a smile's worth of good news vis a vis Iran. The Saudi's and China make nice. Iran and the Latin Left make nice too, but the resulting picture for the greater middle east is confusing, dynamic and variable just as our Dumbbell in Chief gets tough on Iran (011407e)

The future of the U.S.:

Domestic spying, I guess anything goes in this wild world of ours. Time will tell on us, if nothing else will (011407d) The "Scooter" Libby trial set to move forward, finally, but will it probe and will it reveal the "real deal"? (011707h) Take a gander at who is on the witness list (011707i) Here is more about the man and his past (011707j)

And, related to those stories is this one, getting rid of the watch dogs before they have a chance to turn on you, (011907b) that seems to be what Brainless in Chief is about these days. Here is a specific example, Carole Lam in California (011907c)

Out sourcing the personnel who cook our army's food and do the laundry is one thing, but outsourcing our intel functions? Does that sound like a good idea? (011907d)

The polls say American people don't want the surge or much else when it comes to Iraq (011807c)

Gonzales "the ball-less wonder" our attorney general says the constitution does not guarantee habeas corpus, JACKASS! (011907l)

Our Loverly Presstitutes inaction:

The NYT repairs a unique form of corruption that's been reported before, but since it is still happening, I guess the problem has not been solved (011407c)

The big speech and the big misinformation that it carried and no one calls him on it, (011607g) hounds him really, what ho Senators?

Here is the quote: "Administration officials "have convinced a single judge in a secret session, in a non adversarial session, to issue a court order to cover the president's terrorism surveillance program," now read the story (011807a) Here's to our Flip-flopper in Chief (0``11807b) But don't worry, no one knows exactly how it will work (011807d) part two, why five years to flip the flop the prez still broke the law (011807e) part three: the wrap up (011807f)

Hope:

Odd bedfellows make for news, evangelicals and scientists find common ground regarding global warming (011507d)

Then Senator Reid will be saying that Bush has to get congressional authority before adventuring in Iran (011907k)

01/27//07

The "Great War"

Foreign policy as nonsense, that is what we have, thanks Condi, George. I understand better when I'm wasted. (012407b)

The Epicentral Theater The "old" Muddle East:

Israel ... Lebanon ... Palestine ... Gaza:

Hezbollah shuts down major roadways in a demonstration of effective resistance to the US backed government. I think that the US and Israel will "not allow" a Hezbollah government to form. Civil war seems to be closer than anyone thinks and it will be a proxy affair with Iran, Syria and others on one side and the US and Israel in opposition. (012407f) Part two., word on the street is the protest was well organized and the chasm is not just a Hezbollah vs government "thing' (012407g)

The "greater" Muddle Eastern Theater:

Iraq:

How many persons DO we have in Iraq? Counting all "three armies" over a quarter million, easy (012707c) Meanwhile Baghdad is in worsening shape as rumors and death squads come and go (012707e)

Everything else may be going to hell in Baghdad and Iraq in general but they do have good cell phone coverage, broadband and access to text messaging, it keeps everyone in touch. (012307g)

Kurdish soldiers don't like the idea of going to Baghdad, not a bit and desertions are happening, but no hard numbers are to be had (012207a) Militia's brace for a new battle for Baghdad (012207c) and another startling tactic (012207b) One cannot go a mile from the famed green zone, without fire fights. (012407c)

Baqouba, is improving, that is the US line, residents describe it as ridden with violence, ethnic cleansing and battles being fought (012307f)

The Greater Islamic regions, Eastern Theater:

Iran ... Pakistan ... Afghanistan ... et al ...

Afghanistan: The winter is upon the ground and for a time last year's successes and failures are studied, a new year comes now with boasts from both sides, while only the future remains to tell the tale Part one (012707f) Part two (012707g)

Iran: US military given the "go ahead" to kill or capture Iranians believed to be assisting Iraqi opposition (012707a) Outsourcing military operations, Dick style, and Blackwater makes the bucks behind it (012707c)

Pakistan and the Taliban and Afghanistan, nice bedfellows, even if strange, very very strange (012107d) part two, the who's who and what they do (012107e) part three, mixed messages from the Paks, oh well. (012107f)

Russia, our ally in many ways, is not in some, notably with the selling of weapons to Iran, missiles apparently (012307c)

And which way are the arms going when they do cross the Iran Iraq border? Maybe both ways...(012307i) and part two (012307j) Here is what the Iranians say (012307k)

The Greater Islamic regions, Southern Theater:

Ethiopia ... Somalia ... Eritrea ... Sudan

A surrender of an opposition leader of the SCIC in Somalia, but the capital is increasingly unsafe, sound familiar (012207h)

The Korean Zone:

China ... Japan ... the Koreas and Russia

China makes some moves, slight and clever the US changing its tune, maybe it has to do so? (012107g) part two, what is a "concert of democracies"? (012107h) Some more reaction on their anti satellite test (012307a)

The Latin Zone: South of the lo' Rio Grande:

Sure enough Chavez doesn't like the US, our CandyGirl Rice or our Dumbbell in Chief (012107c)

Oil Politics, Wars, etc...

Greg Palast on 1/25/07 talks about Big Oil and Big Brother in the the royal Dumbbells SOTU (012407a)

The future of the U.S. & its election

Why I won't donate or support Kucinich, at least for now. (012307h) The SOTU and the facts it denies (012407a)

Just a sampler of the cost Dingleballs in Chief has cause the US, a poll says it all, most people think our actions in the Middle East have made matters worse, more dangerous and I would think that they don't like us all that much nowadays (012307e)

SWAT teams proliferate as do errors and accidents, but do we have 40,000 high stakes incidents a year? No. So what are they doing? (012407d)

What is left of our democracy and how a "dictatorship within a facade of democracy" is operating, even now. (012407e)

The future:

Our dear leader, the Schmutzkoph in Chief gets a 28% approval rating, so 70% DO think he is a dumbass numbnut. (012307d)

It's not nice to fool mother nature:

An example of how commercial fishing and changing, by that I mean increasing, demand for tuna has caused concern (012207g) Water shortages even now but with big population increases later the handwriting is on the wall for China and India (012207i)

A survey indicates that many, many water fowl are in decline, the world over (012307b) and during the last five years, the losses have been more and more noticeable.

Our Loverly Presstitutes inaction:

When it comes to casualties, it is interesting that the press seems to "go along" with the military's story, no matter the truth (012707b)

Keeping track of the liars and the lies they tell (012207d) And the latest methodology involves knowing that the best way to avoid having to lie is to make sure no one asks questions (012207e) The basic facts have it, surge or no, we don't have enough "boots on the ground" to do the job, period (012207f)

The "Great War"

Foreign policy as nonsense, that is what we have, thanks Condi, George. I understand better when I'm wasted. (012407b) The hegemon will live, that is what one writer says, (020107b) making persuasive arguments regarding the US relationship to its empire. One wonders about the correctness of this, and the consequences.

A brief enough story, but with so many links that it is hard to ignore. The upshot is the drumbeat for a war against Iran is louder than ever.(020207g)

In history, we can see parallels to what we are doing today. Essentially we have a democracy at home and an empire abroad as long as this dichotomy exists we can look to the post WW2 history of England, they gave up empire (020107a) because they could not maintain it and domestic principles at the same time.

The Epicentral Theater The "old" Muddle East:

Israel ... Lebanon ... Palestine ... Gaza:

Gunfights indicate a burgeoning disaffection between Hamas and Fatah, western aid to Fatah is supposedly forthcoming, aid that will take the form, at least partly, of arms. (012807b)

Chaos in Gaza seems to be getting a grip on things there and it spreads, a bit, into Israel (012907d)

In Beruit there are more than grumblings as some say they've reached the "red line" and fear spreads of another civil war,(012807x) reminiscent yet distinguishable from their last 15 year conflict

The "greater" Muddle Eastern Theater:

Egypt, ... Jordan ... Syria ... Iraq ... Saudi Arabia, etc.

Iraq:

How the US effort in Iraq helps Al Sadr equip and train his army (020207f) and a closer look at the recent battle/slaughter in Najaf, it seems a non sectarian group comprising Sunni's and Shia's who are anti US and anti Iran were taken out (020407b) after that list of names, here is the nitty gritty (020407b)

What do the "boots on the ground" have to say about the situation in Baghdad? (020207b)"They control it," it is said, "they allow us to drive around" What does ex commander Casey have to say: "things have gotten markedly and progressively worse and the situation in Iraq can now best be described as dire and deteriorating. (020207c) I regret that our window of opportunity to reverse momentum may be closing." Howzabout that? Nufsaid!

Iraq, Iran says it wants to help. Banks, financing, aid, reconstruction, and ... security.(012907b) Just as Bush Boy has warned them off, issued orders targeting Iranians in Iraq and, after capturing a few, says that they are involved with attacks on coalition forces and, Part two, regarding those captured Iranians (012907c) Bush says we'll be respond firmly (012907e) It seems that Kikurk is back in the news. A struggle there may comprise a "third front" in the morass of chaos that has become the one time nation of Iraq. (020107c) A vote to decide its fate draws nigh and no one wants war though they all prepare for it.

Najaf, Iraq: US and Iraqi forces kill hundreds of Sunnis and Shias who were working together. (012807h) I had been thinking today that this would be the next evolution, as ethnic cleansing is accomplished both sides would then turn on the coalition's forces and its efforts and Part two, speculating as to their intentions (012807i)

Yemen: The occasional battle in this region is small, yet fierce. Another front in Yemen anyone? (012807d)

The Greater Islamic regions, Eastern Theater:

Iran ... Pakistan ... Afghanistan ... et al ...

Afghanistan, we must stay, fight and win, that is CondiGirl for you, course she wasn't in the country at the time, but meddlesome neighbors, poor planning, a weak government corruption and a few other sailients mark this conflict as similar to that of Iraq, and we're doing well there as we all know (012907f)

Word is that Sunni/Shia violence has been present in Pakistan, but it should be all the more serious now a days, another bombing (012807g)

The Greater Islamic regions, Southern Theater:

Ethiopia ... Somalia ... Eritrea ... Sudan

An interesting interview with a film maker who created a documentary on suicide bombers. A controversial opinion is voiced, to say the least, but it is a perspective that has insights (020407a)

Oil Politics, Wars, etc...

How does ExxonMobil's war on science proceed, not to badly it seems. (020207e)

The future of the U.S. & its election

The president grasping for powers that have been proscribed often in the past, an attempt by congress to reassert those rights and limit an imperial president may set the stage for a constitutional showdown, interesting times these (012907a)

How to do nothing, or worse than nothing, (020107d) the non binding, non hand slap of a hand slap to Bushwhackoff's surge plan is literally "nothing" new.

The future

Recruiting from the "bottom of the barrel"is what is going on, what it means is stories like this one, perhaps (020207d)

It's not nice to fool mother nature:

It might be that the alarm is going off and the US is, metaphorically speaking, reaching for the snooze button, knowing that it will have to awaken to the reality of Global Warming. The SOTU mentioned it and inferred that it was factual. (012807a). A sea level rise of a few feet is the sugar coated version of a report, updated data not being included. Greenland and Antarctica melting should be figured in (012807e) I mean, since they are giving off much more melt water than ever before

Centuries of hotter weather are in store for the world? (020107e) Rising seas and chaos, but recall, this is the mild report. (020207a) Global warming is, most likely, man made and unstoppable.

02/10//07

The "Great War"

Do we have a shadow army in Iraq? It seems so. An unaccountable one as a matter of fact, private, who knows what they do or why or for whom, tens of thousands of them. (020507k) Speaking of shadowy forces, we have enough felons in Iraq to stuff a prison with (020707b) and surging into Bin Laden's hands, onward Christian soldiers (020707c)

The Epicentral Theater The "old" Muddle East:

Israel ... Lebanon ... Palestine ... Gaza:

You know as soon as I read this article's headline I laughed, I mean, it's an absurd example of "So what'd you expect?" (020607b) And here is more of the same, predictable, the rioting over Israeli activity near a holy site. (020907a)

Here is one for t he books, folks. Everyone plays their role, predictably. I read through half the article and each person or group mentioned did as one might expect. If this is indicative of the mindsets and cultural zeitgeist's of the region (020607c) there is little reason for any reasonable hope. Maybe we are all simple mechanical constructs, in essence, and the progress or crashes of civilizations are no more than the inevitable wearing out of parts and consequent dissolution.

Saudi money to bankroll the Palestinian government? We'll see if the US scuttles it or not, or tries to (020907b)

Israel's campaign against Iran goes public and strident, I'd guess you'd say (020707j)

The "greater" Muddle Eastern Theater:

Egypt, ... Jordan ... Syria ... Iraq ... Saudi Arabia, etc.

Iraq: Can we F _ _ _ up our campaign against Iran any more than we already have, (020707f) why of course we can, we've "neo-con" power!? And air power, discreetly used, hardly anyone notices or reports on it (020707g) The past four months were the deadliest trimester yet, sounds like progress (020807a) meanwhile the Iraqi army still is not "making it" (020907c)

The Surge, Sadr, Maliki, Iran and the US plan, (020907d) a nice package deal story

Corruption is spelled W-a-t-e-r at least in part of Iraq (020707h)

The horror is immense, hundreds killed or wounded after the US security effort cleared out neighborhood/militia checkpoints. We are blamed for the disaster (020507a) Following a bloody month with the "official" death rate way up over last January, but that 's progress (020507b) Four copters shot down, that is the word and Iran gets blamed for supplying the weaponry, nice (020507c)

When a resistance challenges the copters of the occupying power, successfully, then there are problems, (020807d) do we see this in Iraq? What makes a fireball? (020807e)

Doctored though it must be, the NIE for Iraq makes for grim reading, here are the sparkling out takes : ) (020507d) And why stepping back, in defeat, may lead to victory, whatever that means (020707d)

But we sent them tons of money, really (020707e) though no one knows where most of it went.

The Greater Islamic regions, Eastern Theater:

Iran ... Pakistan ... Afghanistan ... et al ...

Iran: More case-building for a war with Iran, ironically the man sought is a member of the Iraqi parliament and is living in Iran, allegedly funneling Iranian "influence" into Iraq, countering US efforts in that unfortunate land (020607a) If you care to read the socialist perspective on the "developing" confrontation with Iran, read on (020607h)

Maybe all our naval hardware will "bump" into something and start something, brilliant analysis (020807b) and the pieces fall into place (020807c)

Even we, the US, say the case for Iranian "involvement" in Iraq is weak, so what is with the hardware bearing down on the region? (020507f) Maybe this article clarifies the evidence that a push for war "is on" (020507g) But while Hillary is "gung ho" for a scrap with the "axis of evil" (020507h) She gets little applause from the AIPAC because she mentioned the "diplomacy" word

Yet, the thinking is "going forward" despite nay sayers among the people who are "in the know" (020907e)

Afghanistan: The Brits cut a deal, leaving a town that they'd fought the Taliban for, in exchange the town got to rule itself, but its back in the news and has Taliban controlling it (020507i)

The Greater Islamic regions, South Asian Thereto:

India ... South Asia

Does it not seem that building new ICBM's and nuclear submarines are a sign that Russia is resurgent in a big time sort of way and that the US has yet another competitor? (020707a) How wonderful! I would submit that our Dumbbell in Chief has had an incompetent hand in making this possibility a reality.

The Korean Zone:

China ... Japan ... the Koreas and Russia

China: Another grand tour of Africa for HU, (020907f) but behind the scenes it is not all glory and beaming - Part two, aid with no strings? (020907g) Part three, the caveats (020907h) and the details and perspectives (020907i) part two, what China gets back (020907j) part three: China finds a need and fills it, leaving US out (020907k)

The Latin Zone: South of the ol' Rio Grande:

Here is just one more example of how our dearly beloved Jackass in Chief has F - - - - - up again, royally yet already, even if on a smaller scale, see Ecuador. (020607d)

The future of the U.S. & its election

Why is our government so F - - - - - up? Well, we don't have much of one anymore, everything is farmed out, even the investigation into contractor fraud. (020507e) A military state, not just a police state is what this writer postulates (020607h)

Then there is the start up of this: the feds say it's OK to collect DNA from those arrested and detained. Now arrested is arguable, but to collect DNA from anyone detained? Doesn't anyone see that this is a violation of constitutional guarantees against search and seizure? or invasion of privacy or something? (020507j)

It's not nice to fool mother nature:

A stark comparison between Congressional Democraps and Repuglicans, it seems that only 13% of Repuglicans think Global Warming is happening and is a result of human activity. Dems have the agreeable response in the high 90 percent. (021007a) Some banks don't fund projects that warm things up and some do (021007b) And a sample of "politics as usual" from Canada (021007c)

The interesting thing about this simple list, outlining what happens with each additional degree of warming, is that it does not state how much warming we're experiencing, (021007d) I have heard different things ranging up from 3 degrees.

Our Loverly Presstitutes inaction:

A sampler of the "propaganda" channel by Faux and Co. Interesting tidbit, if true, tying Saddam's elders to NAZI efforts and raving anti Semitic violence in the country during WW2. (020607g) Don't forget Georgy Pordgy,'s connection in this regard, oh well.

Everywhere but in Washington, it seems, the war is a "dead duck" a "lead balloon" a "turd in the punchbowl" listen to Russ Feingold (020607e) Yes, read it first "over there" the Guardian bravely reports on American foibles too (020607f) stealing from the poor? A Bushocracy backwash blowback buyout special!

Hope:

From Florida we hear they are getting rid of the touch screen voting machine, New Jersey may be next. (021007e) And read what New Mexico Governor Bill Richard's has to say, stunning, just stunning (021007f)

02/17/07

The "Great War"

Clearly the war in Iraq is not supported by "the people" (021307g) but Jerkoff in Chief still wants to shoot his "daddy wad" Valentine's Day, the Turd in Chief says Iran is a threat to troops in Iraq and he's going to do something about it (021407a) Well, Iranians have been caught giving arms to Iraqis but those were OUR Iraqis, ahem (021407b)

The pride of the CIA's Air Force? torture on the wing and EU complicity in hundreds of flights (022407e)

Why are things going "to hell in a hand basket"? Take a look at where the great dimbulb gets his "best and brightest" (021507f)

Bush, "And I'd like to repeat, I do not know whether or not the Quds Force was ordered from the top echelons of the government. But my point is, what's worse, them ordering it and it happening, or them not ordering it and its happening?" So the conclusion is that it does not matter, one way or the other, does it? Which means the US reaction may as well be framed as if the Iranian government WERE complicit. All that is implied in Mr. Jacakanapes dry drunk rambling (022507)

The Epicentral Theater: The "old" Muddle East:

Israel ... Lebanon ... Palestine ... Gaza:

Call it a ticking time bomb, Lebanon is still stuck with its divisions and things have stayed tense (021307b)

The "greater" Muddle Eastern Theater:

Egypt, ... Jordan ... Syria ... Iraq ... Saudi Arabia, etc.

Yemen: headlines a battle with rebels who say their government is corrupt, are there outside influences at work, who knows, will this be a big deal? Who knows. (021307c)

Iraq: Who boy, just what is needed another chaotic front in a "going to hell" conglomeration. Kikurk folks, it's not just a bone of contention, its a car bombing hotspot. (021307d) of course "dingleballs" in Chief is as clueless as ever. Ok, ok, look at the statistics people, oh wait, don't, not yet, no wait, not EVER (021407c) The so called "slow bleed" strategy.

Meanwhile Sadr etcetera head for the Iranian hills and prep for their return, while "Imposing Law" the name of the surge in Baghdad, churns up dust and eliminates competition (021507f) Man on the street = mixed views, at best (021507g) Reuters gives a positive account and some details. (021507h) and so the "whack a mole" theory gets an additional example (021607b)

A brief on how the Iraq war was supposed to go (021507e)

The Greater Islamic regions, Eastern Theater:

Iran ... Pakistan ... Afghanistan ... et al ...

Iran: Not a new story, but a reminder: US saber rattling, weakens opponents of the current Iranian administration (021107g) meanwhile "the beat" goes on and both sides seem to be continuing on a collision course (021107h) Well more "grist for the mill" is it buildup or bullshit? (0212097a) and now for the frightening quotation (021207b) And even more crap about this diabolical idiot's plan (021207c)

Yank a few loose strings and the king is naked, does it make sense? (021407f) Who bothers asking since they aren't telling

Three wars at once? Why not???(021307f)

In the chaos of Iraq, how can anyone be sure where any weapon comes from, miraculously our trusty admin knows and thankfully tells, even more than they know (021207f) Still the its what the Prez Sez that counts (021507c)

The Korean Zone:

Russia ... China ... Japan ... the Koreas

Russia: Putin criticizes the west, the US, Germany, and our hegemony (021107x) ... maybe they are sick and tired of our criticism? Oh goodie goodie gumdrops, now the pesky Ruskies unilaterally withdraw from an arms control treaty almost 20 years old. Medium range nukes anyone? (021507x)

China:

Korea: Dast I say it, progress? Dast I say even more? Defusing? I dast, I dast! A deal is penned and it seems maybe things will cool off as Korea gets an oil fix to kick off the agreement (021307a) China says its a "win win" now we wait and see (021507b)

Africa

Sudan and Chad, nearly went to war, the Darfur problem continues and extends, once again, into Chad. (021507k)

The future of the U.S. & its election

Talk about a sea change from just 10 years ago too, imagine a long time European ally indicting American citizens and CIA agents? Italy has done so, so has Germany (0216.07c)

If Russia, China and India decided on a "group approach to "balance US influence in their region and or the world, would that not signal a sea change in the geopolitical landscape? Yup.(021507x)

A follow up on the removal and replacement of US attorneys shows how partisan it is and how the Senate, via Arlen Spectator, gave up its oversight and management of the process (021107a) even though he wrote the bill he did not read it, that's the "explanation

The US, China and Russia are fighting over whether or not we can weaponize space, guess who takes up which side of the debate, no, I mean really guess first before you read (021307e)

It's not nice to fool mother nature:

Another previously unheard of name, supposedly famous, makes a splash in the press about global warming, surprise, surprise, he says China and the US need to do much, more and a disaster looms. (021607a)

European reports a loss in their fish stocks, reports from around the world are no different, over fishing, global warming or pollution, pick your cause (021107b) Part two: with a crisis forming, of course a political solution to a completely apolitical situation is applied, oh well (021107c)

In Peru the accelerating melt of glaciers signals water worries (021107d)

In the US a bee die off is in progress, a mysterious "syndrome" (021107e) and it is serious for the bees and agriculture

Our Loverly Presstitutes inaction:

How to slant a super power's media and so direct it's blinded power to your ends. (021407g) or you could give them a "Snow" job and Tony's the man (021607f)

The so called "paper of record" parrots Bushwhackoff dimbulbedness (021207d) - no questions asked - apparently no one bothers to fact check, oh, excuse me, someone does (021207)

Yes and WashPo and NYT base an argumentative article on anonymous sources, nothing odd in that - except tone writers earlier defended their action, or rather lack of it, on NOT wanting to use anonymous sources (021307h) So I understand the NYT's asking for help because the "just can't shut themselves up" when pimping a war (021407d)

Then there is the comparison between how the media focuses on things, Anna Nicole Smith vies with events in Iraq and the presidential campaign of 2008 (021307i)

02/24//07

The "Great War"

War candidate Hillary. The newest "one name" candidate, I guess she doesn't want Bill's name being "in the mix" (022207h)

Court contortionists carry the day, twisting Habeas Corpus, or rather decisions rewarding that, are used to justify or allow GTMO and deny petitions for that right by GTMO prisoners (022107f)

How we've goofed the GWOT. Bush inspires many, not however in the way he'd like (022007c) But Pakistan says they're doing their job (022007d) How is that GWOT going anyhow, a seven fold increase in terrorist acts you say, (022107c) well that's progress isn't it?

A global poll showed me one interesting fact, that many believe that the cause for conflict between Muslim and Western culture are due to radical minorities on both sides. Now I know who they mean when they talk about the Muslim side, but who are they talking about when referring to the Western side? (021907i)

The Epicentral Theater: The "old" Muddle East:

Israel ... Lebanon ... Palestine ... Gaza:

Palestine: The most recent of impasses involving Palestine and the "Quartet" of nations "solving" the "problem" (021807f)

Lebanon: There are factions and characters, charges and counter charges, and Photoshop artists ... confused? I am (021807j) I cannot vouch for the source but the state of mind is clear enough A Beirut Blog has stories that give an alternate view, meaning non Hezbollah (021807k)- who said they were good guys anyway?

The "greater" Muddle Eastern Theater:

Egypt, ... Jordan ... Syria ... Iraq ... Saudi Arabia, etc.

Syria's leader visits Iran, and bits of related news, ominous rumblings too (021807g)

Iraq:

The Brits getting out because it is not good, Jackass Cheney says it "shows progress is being made" while, in reality US forces may be endangered by their departure and what might fill the vacuum (022307f) The road to defeat (022307g)

And that new Iraqi oil law is still shaping up, even though no one knows much about it, as it is secret, from just about everyone (022107d) and some basics to worry about considering Iraqi oil export future (022107e)

Famed blogger "riverbend" from Baghdad, read the story and see if there is a dry eye in the house. (022007e) Meanwhile insurgents begin to work out new tactics (022007h)

The Baghdad crackdown, part of the surge, has had a good start despite a few car bombs and dead bodies turning up, it is quieter (021907h) Getting the hang of using chlorine in bombs (022207a)

It is amazing that what would have been seen as great and wonderful news, only a generation, or ten years ago, is now seen as having the potential to further divide a nation already at war with itself and worsen global warming: Iraq's new Sunni oil fields (021907a) Part two, simple math: Sunni fields could have them be independent (021907b)

Where do the Sunnis get their military money? The Saudi citizen? Really? (021807c) They can organize and support a militant insurgency and the Saudi government knows nothing, can't stop it? Helicopters being shot down every few days, a new tactic or threat? How about both? (021807m)

The Greater Islamic regions, Eastern Theater:

Iran:

Blair says attacking Iran is "wrong" (022307h) Flaps over the intel regarding Iranian nukes (022307i) The US reportedly is developing a 24 hour plan, (022407x) one that can be implemented in that time frame, wunnerful Iran says its ready "for anything" (022407d) Part two, Israel in the mix (022407e) Part three, what will the cotillion do, continue to dance or face the music? (022407f)

The latest exchange Iran: "No" (022307b) Part two, Jackass Cheney: "All options on the table ..." (022307c) Part three, asking for the impossible (022307d) Part four unity in sanctions? (022307e) The view from Iran, discontent exists, tomatoes coast a lot, but revolution? No, not likely (022207c) But we DO HAVE A PLAN for Iran (022207d) Iran wants to speed up their nuclear work (022207e)

Some think we want to do the "counterpunch thing" by getting Iran to strike first or by blaming Iraq on them (022207f)

Another day another deadline, Iran defiant, so what else is new? (022107a)But we really don't have to worry about our problems in Iraq, it's all Iran's fault, if they'd only quit "messing with us" That is the spin anyway, and speaking of that, the spin cycle seems broken on the Dumbass administration's propaganda efforts to "run up" to another war (021907e) and an interesting bit about "how wars start" (021907g)

And speaking of wars, here is the latest "tit for tat" (021907r)

Well here is my favorite quote Milt Bearden, former CIA official, said "As insane as the prospect for war might [be]... Americans should be prepared to wake up one morning and find themselves at war with Iran." (021907f)

Afghanistan: Taliban control of an important province? Not a good sign, Yes? (022307j) Another enemy offensive in the offing, why it must be spring! (021807l)

Pakistan: AQ and Mr. B. Laden et al are ensconced in the "wild" regions of this country and seem to be making something of a come back according do Bushwhackoff even (021907o) And THEY too are building fences to make good neighbors ! (021907q)

The Korean Zone:

Russia ... China ... Japan ... the Koreas

Russia: They don't like the US building bases in Poland, the bear blusters and huffs and puffs. Poland feels more secure, but is the world? (022007a)

The future of the U.S. & its election

As has been reported, the housing market is seeing problems emerge. It is the linchpin of the US's economic well being (022407g) Part two, stretching it and losses mounting (022407h)

At least one thing is going waaaaay up, - Since George, "Der Sheisskoph" Bush's election severe poverty has grown by leaps and bounds (022307k)

So, 13,000 votes not counted in a raced decided by less than 400 votes, but everything went right, (022307a) the machines functioned correctly that is the word from Florida

I guess it doesn't matter if you do your job well, you can be fired anyway. That's what US attorneys are learning, have learned and now congress is asking questions, bravo for them, but what will they DO ABOUT IT? That is the ten dollar question (021807d) Here is the skinny, corruption investigations get axed with the attorneys (022407a) Part two, December 7th a day of infamy (022407b)

It's not nice to fool mother nature:

Humanity was actually warned years ago about global warming, as early as 1988 according to this article (022007f)

Exxon Mobil and others say global warming is not really a fact, not really happening and that their efforts to "educate" the public by sharing their "company perspective" have really been misunderstood. (021807e)

You can fool government inspectors, fiddle with figures and fudge faith in fundamentals but you cannot lie to Mother Nature. England has found this out and the science has gone from the 2001 statement that the chance of such an event (polar meltdowns) was "not well known, but probably very low". to this years assessment: "there is a 50% chance that widespread ice sheet loss 'may no longer be avoided' because of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere"(021907c) More recent it is said that Global Warming is 90% likely to be caused by human factors (021907p)

The Future

If you scored 10% on a test, that is failure. Scoring 28% is better, but it is still a failure. What is the cost of a scientifically illiterate society? I guess we'll find out, or maybe we already have? (022307l)

A civil - military confrontation going on? Bushwhackoff and SnowJob say one thing and Pace says another, contradictions are not welcome and so one wonders (022207g)

How we treat our wounded needs fixing, the medical treatment is fine the bureaucratic bumbling that follows is, at best, "controversial" Walter Reed Hospital, building 18 (021907j) Part two the "janitor translator" and "helpful" pamphlets (021907k) Part three, finding your case worker (021907l) Part four, lost paper work, amazing tales (021907m) Part five, 7 am formation, owing money and not knowing what to do (021907n)
